Tree Journal Activity Pack

This pack is designed for primary groups on self-guided visits to the National Botanic Gardens, however, the activities can be based around any tree, in your school grounds or local park.

Before your visit please check in with us and let us know you are coming so that we can ensure your visit runs as smoothly as possible. You can email us at botanicgardens@opw.ie or phone 01 857 0909.

Some things to bear in mind when visiting the Gardens.

  • Groups are very welcome to the Gardens but be mindful of other visitors. Don’t block paths, it would be better to find a tree well away from paths if you are spending time around it. For example, areas in the arboretum are ideal.
  • Our trees and plants are very precious, please do not damage or take any leaves, flowers or cones off the trees. You are welcome to gather anything on the ground underneath!

Pre-visit activities

This forms the basis for the activities around your Tree Journal Activities, where pupils can make their own notebook from recycled materials and can scrapbook their tree activities.

Activities to do while in the Gardens:

The following activity sheets contain teacher instructions as well as printable sheets which the pupils can cut out and paste into their Tree Journals.
