Position available on a NWE Interreg project DigiHerb
Position: Project Manager
Duration: 12 months
Location: National Botanic Gardens, Dublin, Ireland
A project manager position is available immediately for a fixed contract of 12 months on the NWE Interreg funded project, DigiHerb. The primary objectives of the DigiHerb project include the digitisation and transcription of approximately 300,000 herbarium sheets from three herbaria in North-West Europe. Additionally, the project aims to establish a comprehensive data management system and digital portal for the collection. The National Herbarium in the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland (OPW) is spearheading this initiative in partnership with two other herbaria: The State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe and Ghent University. The project will utilise a high-throughput conveyer-belt digitisation technology and state of the art data management system. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Project Manager to lead this ambitious herbarium digitisation project. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, ranging from reporting, financial management, communications and liaison with stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this project. The salary is €42,783 per annum. The ideal candidate will possess a NFQ level 9 third-level qualification with experience in project management. A proven track-record in successfully managing projects, with a preference for experience in digitisation initiatives or botany would be a distinct advantage.
The role will involve the following duties:
• Project coordination: Lead and coordinate the DigiHerb project, ensuring its successful implementation in line with project goals and timelines.
• Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation, ensuring the project stays within scope and meets financial objectives.
• Procurement: Manage the procurement process, ensuring timely acquisition of necessary resources and adherence to project guidelines.
• Communication: Act as the central point of contact between the three partnering herbaria, fostering clear and effective communication channels to facilitate collaboration.
• Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with project partners, key stakeholders, including vendors and internal teams, to ensure a cohesive and cooperative working environment.
• Reporting: Generate regular reports on project progress and milestones achieved as stipulated in the project proposal, keeping all stakeholders informed and engaged.
• Social media management and outreach: Develop and implement a social media strategy and outreach activities to promote project awareness, engage the community, and highlight achievements.
• Herbarium digitisation and transcription: Facilitate and help with the herbarium digitisation and transcription activities.
