As of Friday 24th August 2018 we have a record breaking number of tomato cultivars on display in the Teak House at the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland, Glasnevin. The Totally Terrific Tomato Festival 2018 kicked off on Saturday 18th August. Our initial display grew as more and more growers contributed. We soon realised how close we were to breaking the world record of 241 tomato cultivars on display in one area and grew ambitious. A few calls were made and soon we received yet more wonderful varieties. Once we had confirmed the identities of each cultivar, labelled, and arranged them, we were ready to record the final tally of 256. Huge thanks and congratulations to each of our 44 growers and the team who arranged the exhibition.
The tomatoes will be on display until Sunday 2nd September. Of course all the tomatoes are perishable and may not all last another week. So we will harvest the seeds and begin the growing process all over again in preparation for next year’s Festival.
