The Get Ready For Spring Tulip Naming Competition

The Dutch Embassy is running a competition to name a new cultivar of tulip specially bred by Jan Ligthart in honour of Ireland (right).

The winner will have the honour of naming the tulip which has been specially created by Mr. Jan Ligthart in honour of Ireland and also receive a return trip to the Netherlands, complete with:

Two return tickets sponsored by Aer Lingus
Two entry tickets to the Keukenhof
Two Amsterdam City Cards for 48 hours
Complimentary stay for 1 night with breakfast at the Hilton Amsterdam

The Jury, chaired by Professor Mary McAleese will decide the winning name. The winner will be announced at the Tulip event in the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9 on March 29th, when the Tulip will be baptised!

Entries must be received by email to dub-tulips@minbuza.nl or by post to Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Trade Section / Tulip Festival, 160 Merrion Road, Dublin 4 before midday 9 March 2012 to qualify for entry.

Rules of Entry: The proposed name to be entered in the competition must contain no more than 2 words which are in some way associated with Ireland or its culture or heritage. The proposed name must not infringe any intellectual property rights (including but not limited to trade mark rights), must not be similar to the name of any other tulips and must not contain any person’s name.
