Lesser Known Orchids

If you would like to know more about one of our former Director’s, Frederick Moore and the orchid collection at Glasnevin, please go to the online exhibition entitled ‘Lesser Known Orchids’.

‘Lesser Known Orchids’ is based on an exhibition held at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin. From the 21 to 22 of April 2018, the RHS Orchid Committee, held its first meeting in Ireland. To coincide with this historic meeting, an exhibition entitled ‘Three Threads’, exploring three themes relating to Frederick Moore’s orchid passion was held at the Visitor Centre of the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin. ‘Lesser Known Orchids‘ is an online exhibition presenting a selection of this work.

 

The Gumbleton Bequest

The Gumbleton Bequest was made in 1911 by William Edward Gumbleton from Cobh, Co. Cork.  It is a collection of botanical and horticultural works, chiefly from the nineteenth century, many of which are hand-painted folio volumes.  The exhibition outlines a few of its highlights.

The Orchid Paintings of Glasnevin

The Orchid Paintings of Glasnevin, highlights the botanical art collection held in the Library at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin and focuses on the orchid paintings by Lydia Shackleton and Alice Jacob.
