Puya berteroniana is a member of the pineapple family. It grows in the foothills of the Chilean Andes and has earned the nickname 'Sheep-Eating Plant' on account of its habit of catching introduced sheep in its thorny leaves.
The pictures below were captured on the 21st May (left) and 25 May (right) and show how fast the inflorescence is unfurling - hurry if you want to see it as it may be some years before it does it again.
