Birds of Ireland: Facts, Folklore & History
Glynn Anderson, Guide & Information Officer at the National Botanic Gardens, has just published this book with The Collins Press.
Lavishly illustrated and beautifully designed, the book is truly chomh breabhsánta le glasóg being packed
with delightful vignettes of Irish birds now and in the past.
It is truly amazing how many uses birds have in Irish folklore, from weather prediction, improving
one's fishing bait, making men into obedient slaves for life, and curing everything from baldness to whooping cough.
Lists of curses, proverbs and numerous recipes make this an encyclopaedic reference work for any nature lover.
Available at many book shops, including the National Botanic Gardens
Glynn will be lecturing at 3pm on Sunday 16th November 2008 at the Botanic Gardens on this topic.
