Ireland’s flora is a unique combination of species; some of these might seem more at home in the Arctic, others in the European Alps and still others on the Mediterranean coasts. How these different species arrived and flourished here has been studied by botanists for many centuries. Matthew Jebb, Director of the National Botanic Gardens, will describe some of these stories and why some species have become rare and endangered.
